Ink-Blending Faux Shaker Card

Hi friends, today I'm sharing an unusual ink-blending palette, and a gorgeous faux shaker card, which I made during a Facebook Live in the Picket Fence Community Group. If you'd like to join the group, the link is here:

Picket Fence Products Used:

Hot Pressed Smooth

So, I built my card idea around the sequins as they were so beautiful and the shiniest, most sparkly sequins I've ever seen! The issue I had was that they were orange and blue - which when mixed together make a gross icky brown. After a few attemps, I nailed the color combo - Ripe Persimmon, and Speckled Egg. Salvaged Patina also works nice, but I wanted a dusky finish and the patina was a little too bright on this occasion.
Project One - Be Sure to Soar

  • Ink-blend Speckled Egg and Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide Inks onto smooth, hot pressed watercolor paper. Allow to dry or heat dry the inks before stamping.
  • Stamp your image directly over the ink blending
  • Trim your stamped panel 4.25" x 3", a piece of black cardstock 4.5" x 3.25", and make an A2 top folding card blank with the same watercolour paper as it's 300gsm (approx 110lb).
  • Stamp out and white heat emboss, 'be sure to soar', trim to size.
  • glue the stamped panel onto the black mat. Add foam pads to the back and then attach to the A2 card base.
  • Add foam pads to the sentiment, and attach directly in the top centre.
  • For a little sparkle, add a few sequins.
Project 2 - Faux Shaker
  • Ink-blend Speckled Egg and Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide Inks onto smooth, hot pressed watercolor paper. Allow to dry or heat dry the inks before stamping.
  • Stamp your image directly over the ink blending
  • Trim your stamped panel 5" x 3.75", a piece of black cardstock 5.25" x 4", and make an A2 top folding card blank with the same watercolour paper as it's 300gsm (approx 110lb).
  • Add a layer of Heavy Gel Medium to the bottom inch of the card, and then literally add the sequins just like embossing powder. The gel medium is an AMAZING glue and dries like a clear wax.
  • Shake off the excess, and then tidy up the sequins. You may need to add in some sequins here and there, just dip the sequins into the gel medium with some tweezers and add to your panel. Set aside to dry.
  • Stamp the sentiment, 'poetry can be written by arranging colors well'.
  • glue the stamped and sequined panel onto the black mat, and attach to the A2 card base.
  • Add foam pads to the sentiment, and attach to your card. In this photo it went on the top right, but on my FB Live, I added it right in the centre.
  • Finish by added a few more sequins around the sentiment.
Holy cow, isn't this a stunner?! Seriously, look at those sequins!
In addition to these cards, I also made, ruined, then decided it wasn't ruined, another card using the same stamp set.  I say ruined because I had some pencil marks on the card and when I attempted to erase them, the paper became distressed and the ink rubbed off. What I wasn't expecting is that this actually looks AWESOME! I had no idea this was even a thing, but I will be exploring this technique in more detail for sure.
What do you think? Doesn't it look super cool and distressed?! Have you ever done this before and is it an actual technique? I'd love to know what it's called.
That's all from me today, and thank you so much for visiting. I'm grateful to have wonderful crafty, arty people in my life who encourage, support, and celebrate one another. I love you, thank you!
