Perfect Poinsettias

Hi friends, Jen here. Today I'm sharing a couple cards from the Perfect Poinsettias stamp set Polkadoodles have just released.  Nikky's stamps are amazing and I really enjoyed using the entire collection. I'm not a keen gardener so had no idea whether poinsettias were blue or not but I felt they would look beautiful so dug out my Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens and and went to work.  Card One Instructions:  Stamp out a clean and simple design with one poinsettia and three leaves using a little masking using Versafine Black Ink.  Poinsettia watercoloured with Blue Velvet and True Turquoise Aqua Flow Pens.  Holly leaves watercoloured with Evergreen Fern and Sliced Kiwi.  Watercolour the background with Yellow Ocre, Caramel Pecan and then go on for darker shadows with Rustic Oak Aqua Flows.  Colour in the centre of the flower with any bright yellow you have. I used a yellow colour pencil.  Mat and layer using navy blue cardstock and some papers from Winter Wishe...

The Christmas Card, A History!

Ho, ho, ho - Merry Christmas!  Now, we've all made and received countless Christmas cards over the years but have you ever wondered where it all began? Henry Cole was part of the 'elite' in early Victorian England, and had the misfortune of having too many friends. By 1843, those friends had become quite a pain in the backside with all their letters A custom in England, the Christmas and New Year’s letter had received a new impetus with the recent expansion of the British postal system and the introduction of the 'Penny Post,' allowing the sender to send a letter or card anywhere in the country by affixing a penny stamp to the correspondence. And everybody who was anybody sent letters! Cole was quite an enthusiastic supporter of the new postal system, and he enjoyed being the 1840s equivalent of an A List Celebrity, but he was also a very busy man, fretting over what to do when there were stacks of unanswered correspondence. “In Victorian England, it was considered ...

EASEL DOES IT!

Happy Sunday to you!  I've been at the easel cards again and this time it's all about Craftwork Cards. It's a longer post from me today as I've made 6 different cards this week - from a tiny ATC all the way up to a very large triple easel card.  1. ATC Easel designed using Christmas Cheer. I don't know if you're meant to make easel card ATC's but it was fun making this little cutie! Here I've demonstrated just how small this is.  2. This is a  3 x 3 inch Easel Card designed using Birds & Blooms and took about 10 minute using the leftover paper from my other card creations.  3. 6 x 6 Easel Card designed using Birds & Blooms .  Once again I have opted to make a simply designed card which took no more than 25 minutes from start to finish (although I used a heat gun to dry the Stickles). For this card, the only other item used was Stickles, Star Dust. The topper on the base has been converted into a card, so there is room for your message inside....

It's all Hunkydory!

Hello! It's been awhile but I had an accident with a scalpel then fell down the stairs! I did manage to make a few cards recently so thought I would pop them on here to show you. I've not made Hunkydory Christmas cards before and wasn't sure what to expect. I see A LOT of people use HD so thought I'd follow suit! To my surprise, the four cards I've made have turned out ok -  let me show you... Snow globe aperture card made with Hunkydory Cute Christmas - The North Pole - with distress glitter around the card front. Here I made a cheeky triangle fancy shaped card with Hunkydory Festive Elegance, Festive Treats.   Just a close up of some of the detail of the triangle card. And here I show you how to secure the card together. I'm sure there are other ways to secure it, but I couldn't think of any. haha With this velcro fastener it allows you to post the card flat. Here is another card using  Hunkydory Festive Elegance, Festive Treats. This time it's a sweet...

Christmas Clear

It's been another crazy week for me here in Conrwall and the weekend couldn't come soon enough!  For this post, I knew I wanted to use the same little deer I used last Christmas but in a different way. I purchased some Hunkydory acetate, and rummaged in my Craftwork Cards sentiment stash to create a few really modern cards.  I had to rack my brain for a while to figure out what I was doing but once I decided on full acetate cards, it came together quite nicely. Materials used: Hunkydory snowfall acetate Craftwork Cards sentiment two memory box dies (deer and tree) adhesive Stickles, felt paper ProMarkers embroidery thread.  Although these cards are quick and easy to create, they're also quite effective and very modern looking. I cut and scored the acetate to make a 5.5 x 4.24 inch card and then hand cut the shape for the snow. You'll need to make sure you cut through two layers of paper or felt so you can stick one on the opposite side, which will cover any signs of adh...
